today is day three in bangkok. yesterday was good but crazy. learning our way around bangkok is not easy and completely up to us. transportation is not exactly designed to help the tourist. we took the river boat for 26 baht for both of us (less than one dollar) but the first dock we walked up to a guy tried to tell us it would cost 1000 baht (around $30). many of the tuk-tuk drivers wanted to take us to places other than where we wanted to go and one of them did. to a tourist office to buy a package trip. we thought we could try and buy tickets for the weekend to go to a city north of bangkok and he said he had a package trip that would be better. we insisted that we only wanted train tickets to go there but the guy told us if we were not happy with what he was offering we were free to go. we just left. it was obviously not an official tourist office. so we have kind of learned who we can believe.
it was a good day though. we saw the golden budda, 5 tons of solid gold. and a few temples. ok, i'm running out of time i gotta go. it's around 12noon here and i am confused with the time difference from home.

Sounds complicated but I know you guys will figure it out. Just be careful not to trust everyone who is trying yo do you a "favor".
By the way Dad tried to post a note from his computer and it told him he had to sign in with a password or sign up with a google account. When I tried to post before I signed in to get my (Gmail) e-mail it told me the same thing but after I signed in to get my mail and then went to your blog it just popped up that I was posting as Mary and I didn't have to "open" an account, all I had to do was "leave your comment" and then "publish your comment".
By the way I have my Bangkok clock set and you are 13 hours ahead of Chicago so it is 8:30am here and 9:30pm there.
Maybe you can find official tourist help somewhere. It will probably get better when you travel to smaller towns. Don't try to do everything at once.
