these are from siem reap. the first picture is from angkor wat. the second one is jose climbing one of the temples i can not remember.
This blog was originally created for my travels through Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Burma in 2007. A few months after the trip, during the September protests in Burma, I decided to continue with it to better educate myself and help in the spread of information about Burma, in which there has not been enough. In my lifetime I hope to see the Burmese people get out of their 60 year military dictatorship. GO BACK TO SEPT 25th 2007 IN THE BLOG ARCHIVE TO GET CAUGHT UP.

Jeannie,
We still try to translate from Jose's page. It always sounds so much more dangerous. there was something about an iron bar and pushing yourselves into a doorway that turned out to be a hotel where you stayed 2 nights. Also from the translation we get the impression that for once you might have been frightened. The pictures always are great. Jose looks to be climbing steps that are very steep. One of these days I will see if someone can get his side of the story.
How long will you be in Cambodia? And make sure you check places out with someone before you go out of the main tourist areas. You know how mothers like to worry. Which makes me ask how are Jose's Mom and Dad doing without being able to check in to your blogs every day?
Love,Mom
don't worry mom. some of the translations you are getting are not exactly accurate. and yes it was probably the first time we were actually a bit frightened but we solved the situation easily. we stayed with a group and got to the safe area. we are only going to stay in cambodia a few more days and only seeing things during the day and then straight back to our guest house. really everything is fine and safe. we are probably safer than some of my neighborhoods in chicago.
Love,
Jeannie
Jeannie,
Speaking for myself, I don't mind the history lessons. Even if I learned some of the info at one time, it's good to be reminded.
I hope you find the words to write down your thoughts and describe your experiences in more detail when you can as you say "wrap your mind around" what you are seeing. It might be easier to write it on paper.
We check your blog everday, as well as Jose's. I also have given your blog to a friend of mine.
We are very happy to be able to see pics of you and hear from you - so we know you're ok.
Ellie and Abbie are asking for you. I told them they wouldn't be able to see you for another couple of months.
Hi to Jose.
Love, Nancy
This is soooo cool Jeanne. I just saw your comment come up as I was posting mine. I am picturing you somewhere right now sitting at a computer. Yes, I know I'm up way toooo late.
Good night!
Nancy
Hey Nancy,
I must have just missed your comment back to me. It's great to have the internet while traveling. It wasn't long ago when people were traveling here and not able to send quick messages home. I can't imagine that. We can find an internet cafe just about everywhere. Though last night we where in an internet cafe and the power went out in the entire area and it is still out today. We are in a different part of the city using the internet now. Nobody knows anything so we are not sure if it will go back on at all.
Tell Abbie and Ellie I miss them!
Love, Jeannie
Hey Jeannie -
Great pictures so far! I check your blog everyday too and show my lab mates. My labmate has a friend that is in Cambodia right now too. He just sent him some pictures of the same places that you guys have been. His name is Chris Celhorst and from Berkley. Maybe you'll run into him?
