Mekong Delta

We returned from the Mekong Delta today. We spent last night in Can Tho.
Joanne, I believe that is the city that uncle John was stationed in during the war??
We didn't even realize we would be there. We were not planning things very well and the first time I looked at a map I thought the town was someplace else.
We decided to take a tour from Saigon to visit the Mekong Delta to make it easy. Now we are so glad we did. We would not have seen half of what we did had we not booked a tour.
There are so many different tours of the area to take. We didn't even know where we were going. We signed up for one that said two days and then we were just glad not to have to think about getting around. We ended up in Can Tho with the tour for the night not even knowing we would be there. It's the 5th largest city in the country, about a half million people I think. Really nice city. I guess it has had a lot of development in just the last few years.
Our entire tour was $16 each for two days one night. We can't believe all we did for that money. We started out at 8am with a guide that took us to the floating market canals. We took a boat around and stopped twice. Saw locals making rice paper and different foods. We had some fresh coconut candy that was excellent. They took us on the boat for another stop for lunch and then some local women sang. We got back on the boat and ended up in Can Tho. Our one night hotel was great. Breakfast was included and today we had more touring around the area in small boats to see more floating markets. We stopped along the way and had fresh fruit at a families farm. It was excellent but I couldn't tell you what some of it was. Then we were able to walk around the area where they grow their fruit. Then another 3-4 hour bus ride back to Saigon.
We just can not believe how little money we paid for all of that.
We are hungry and tired now. I will try and post pictures soon!
Tomorrow (March 2) we are off to Mui Ne at 7:30 in the morning.
