Burma's junta is claiming that more than 92 percent of the voters approved a military-backed constitution in the first round of a referendum last week. It is said that the junta forced the people to vote Yes and that voters were not allowed to vote in private. The junta also says that there was a 99% turnout of voters! Can anyone believe that?! The country has had somewhere between 130,000 to 200,000 people dead or missing from the cyclone and they refused help from the outside world.
It is really angering to me that the world just watches and reads about what is happening in Burma and just lets it happen. With a combined military effort from many nations I really think it would be easy to go in and take the military out of power. Their people do not support them and if they do it is only because they are very mislead.
I am just trying to figure this all out as I go along so all I can say is that... I guess the governments of civilized nations around the world just don't care, OR Burma is so firmly under the thumb of China that no other country would dare to intervene.
