Sad, but not surprising...

Official news headline released today:
Burma military rejects UN peace talk proposal
Australian Broadcasting Corporation: Posted Wed Nov 7, 2007 8:34am AEDT

Burma's ruling junta has rejected UN special envoy Ibrahim Gambari's bid for three-way talks with detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi during his visit, official media said.

Information Minister Kyaw Hsan told Mr Gambari that such a meeting was premature and he warned that tougher international sanctions would only make matters worse.

"Burma will not bow to outside pressure. It will never allow any outside interference to infringe on the sovereignty of the state," state-run MRTV quoted Mr Hsan as saying during talks with Mr Gambari in the new capital Naypyidaw.

The UN said Mr Gambari "had very frank and extensive exchanges" with senior junta officials on the fourth day of a mission aimed at securing talks between Ms Suu Kyi and the generals who crushed pro-democracy protests in late September.

We could have guessed this would happen. There is just no incentive for the junta to agree to talk... They are in power, they are a RULING JUNTA. If they would agree to talk it would mean that they are not really a REGIME/JUNTA/DICTATORSHIP.

As I have said in past posts... Boycott the 2008 Beijing Olympics!!! Spread the word.

Oh, one more reason to boycott (to add to a long long list)... The way it is encouraged in China to push very young children beyond their limits, to possibly have a chance at becoming an Olympic athlete.
Example:
BEIJING—An eight-year-old Chinese girl has arrived in Beijing after state media said she ran 3,560 km (2,212 miles) to celebrate the 2008 Olympics, a feat which brought her father accusations of child abuse.
I would say that would be abuse to an adult let alone a child!
